Yoga is part of a broad philosophical tradition that originated in India. The true value of Yoga is revealed, for both practitioners and teachers, when it is understood as a philosophical system that offers paradigms through which to understand the Self, its purpose in life, the Universe, and how it works. In our Urban Yoga talk, we dedicate a few minutes to exploring these paradigms and make suggestions on how to apply them in our daily lives.
Yoga is one of the six orthodox philosophical systems of India. Like all philosophy, it seeks to answer those fundamental questions we all ask ourselves at some point: What or who am I? Why am I here? What happens after death?
Unlike Western philosophical systems, Eastern systems such as Yoga offer us methods and techniques to verify their teachings, and it is through the practice of these techniques that human development is achieved.
In practice, we understand that human development involves becoming healthier, suffering less, living a life of purpose, with gratitude, clarity, peace of mind, and serving the Common Good.
