table of Contents

On Sunday, February 2, we held the First Meeting of URBAN YOGA.

Although it is the first meeting, baptized by Professor Iskra Bohórquez With this name, it is not the first effort made by the students and teachers of the school Ashtanga Yoga Maracay  to convene and bring together yoga practitioners from the cities of the region.

This event is preceded by 30 Open Guided Ashtanga Yoga Classes, for 3 consecutive years and the community Yoga work of the Professor Graciela Santos with the yoga group of Green Dot which meets every Sunday.

Teachers Iskra and Graciela envision URBAN YOGA as a traveling monthly gathering where all yoga practitioners from the region's diverse groups and schools come together to recognize, identify, and share in community while building civic kinship.

Talk on the Philosophy of Yoga in Everyday Life

The meeting began with a chat, where Iskra spoke of the Urban Yogi, the human being who lives in the city, unlike the ancient Indian yogis who isolated themselves in caves and mountains. Urban Yogis, even though they live in the city, study the teachings and practice the ancient techniques of self-development and spiritual realization proposed by the philosophical traditions of India.

Yoga Sangraha for the community

Following the talk, attendees enjoyed a practical class of Yoga Sangraha, a contemporary approach to traditional Hatha Yoga designed by the internationally renowned Yoga teacher Eddie SternThis class was guided by the teacher Iskra together with the school students Ashtanga Yoga Maracay.

The teacher Iskra Bohórquez She is the first Venezuelan teacher certified by Eddie Stern to teach Sangraha Yoga classes, a method that combines different techniques from various Hatha Yoga traditions with an approach that considers science and medical studies. This type of yoga class is accessible to all levels of practitioners and allows you to immediately feel its beneficial effects on the body, nervous system, breathing, and mental and emotional states in just one session.

Conscious Market to recognize and re-educate ourselves

The last activity of the event, but not least, was the Conscious Little Market This event brought together local entrepreneurs who promote health, well-being, and responsible and conscious consumption. Some of the brands that joined us on this occasion were: Nutribites, Plantitas.ve, BioFabrika, Yoga Flow, AryaBelieve in yourself, Magic of Being, Yoga Cacao Maracay, Art and Recycling, Graciela Santos Yoga, Tulsidas and Bhavana House.

The second Urban Yoga gathering is scheduled for Sunday, March 9th. We hope to welcome more yoga practitioners and teachers from the city, as well as anyone interested in learning about these ancient teachings and practices.

And attention Yoga Teachers, stay tuned, we will soon be launching the registration form for our Urban Yoga DirectoryIf you are a Yoga teacher and you are teaching these valuable teachings and techniques in your area, do not hesitate to register. here so that together we can create a search engine that allows anyone interested in learning yoga to find a teacher near their home or town.

These are challenging times for humanity. Yoga is a broad set of teachings and techniques for self-development and human improvement. Yoga can definitely help! As renowned Spanish doctor Mario Alonso Puig says, "Alone we may get there faster, but together we will go further!"

Thank you! If you're in Maracay, nearby, or within our region, we look forward to seeing you at the next Urban Yoga!
